Meet Dustin, a Passionate CGT Global Donor
Dustin is passionate about research. Here’s why.
Why is Research Important to You?
Since I’ve been diabetic for nearly 27 years, I am a big supporter of stem cell research. I’ve seen a lot of advances in science in regards to diabetes ever since I got it when I was 14.
I know what it is like firsthand to live with something that I didn’t ask for. There are some days when I have to force myself to go out and do things, I mean I got a 6-year-old son I have to take care of. I got to go to work. I got to do normal life things every day, and it can be hard a lot of times with diabetes.
Medical Research Saved My Life
Kirk Labar, East Norriton StemExpress Site Manager, knows firsthand how advancements in medical research can transform and save lives – including his own. Here’s why.
MEET TERRA, CGT GLOBAL DONOR
I’ve always donated blood. I’ve been donating whole blood and platelets ever since I was a teenager in high school. I had no idea that StemExpress existed, but I fell in love with it right away. I have been able to help not one person, but countless amounts of people.

Whether that be cures or new treatments for diseases like cancer or Alzheimers, or even just a more efficient version of the flu shot, medical researchers are hard at work to find ways to improve our lives. For many decades we have greatly benefited from these efforts as research has led to life-changing discoveries. Here is a small, but notable list: 1882 – The first mastectomy for…

CD34+ Stem Cells Show Protective Effects on Damaged Retina
Intravitreal injections of human bone marrow CD34+ stem cells prevent further retinal damage associated with diabetic retinopathy. Researchers at the University of California, Davis, have shown that stem cell injections elicit a protective effect on retinas damaged by diabetes. Using a diabetic retinopathy mouse model system, the scientists demonstrated that intravitreal injections of human bone marrow CD34+ stem cells resulted in homing and integration of the cells into the damaged retina and preservation of the retinal vasculature. The study provides a potential…
