Bone Marrow Cells: Critical Tools Driving Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Innovation
Surprisingly safe and well tolerated, the first bone marrow biopsy was performed on the shinbone in 1908 by Italian physician Giovanni Ghedini. Today, bone marrow continues to be an important source of information about the health status of individuals with bone marrow disorders and a gold mine for new discoveries in stem cell science to benefit society. By studying bone marrow cells, scientists can unlock important, life-saving discoveries in cell and gene therapy. Human bone marrow cells are a critical starting material for advancing research in regenerative medicine, immunotherapy, and gene editing.
What we offer:
What makes bone marrow unique?
Bone marrow is the richest source of stem cells and regenerative potential in the human body. All blood cells are born in the bone because it is a rich source of hematopoietic stem cells that give rise to erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and thrombocytes (platelets). Rare mesenchymal stem cells, the progenitors to osteoblasts (bone), chondrocytes (cartilage), adipocytes (fat), myocytes (muscle), and neurons (nerve) are also found in the marrow milieu. Unlike solid organs, bone marrow with multiple cell types can be cultured in the lab, and this allows scientists to study a multi-cellular microenvironment that is more representative of human physiology, a significant advantage over immortalized single type cell lines. Studies using bone marrow can improve transplantation medicine, stem cell research, and immune cell therapies.
Isolated cells
Our cell science experts follow optimized protocols to isolate a number of different cell types from bone marrow including CD34+ stem and progenitor cells, myeloid cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and others. We offer custom cell type isolations to meet the needs of our clients. These primary cells are key in the development of regenerative medicine, cellular therapies, and gene therapies that hold the potential to change lives forever by repairing and regenerating damaged or diseased tissues.
At CGT Global, sourcing cells is our specialty
To provide cells necessary to advance cell and gene therapy research we have established a diverse donor pool with thousands of donors. We have established trust with our donors, so we can offer scientists repeat and recallable donors for long-term studies at our West and East coast CGT Global Stem Cell Collection Centers. Each clinic follows the same protocol to eliminate variability.
Collections are completed ethically at our FDA registered CGT Global Stem Cell Collection Center using Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved consent forms and protocols. Our donor recruitment process for bone marrow biospecimens includes a comprehensive screening for potential pathogens such as HIV, Hep B, and Hep C. We can provide information about ABO, RhD, HLA typing, and CMV status. Our donor database is complete with demographics such as age, weight, and ethnicity, and medical history including allergies, medications, and vaccination status.
Why do donor characteristics matter?
With this information, we can provide age, sex, BMI matched healthy control bone marrow cells for many types of studies. For example, to facilitate transcriptomics and qRT-PCR studies, we can provide bone marrow that is directly collected into a PAXgene Bone Marrow RNA stabilizing tube upon request. Comparing healthy control cells to disease state cells can help unlock the cellular mechanisms driving malignant cell biology using a variety of methods such as pathway analysis of differentially expressed genes. Mechanistic insights such as these are the foundation for creating more effective cell and gene-based therapies.
Our clinics are co-located with our specialized, state-of-the-art cell laboratories so cells are processed right after they are donated to maintain high quality starting material. Bone marrow is shipped immediately after collection. For isolated primary cells, our lab carefully evaluates, isolates, and properly stores the cells for storage or shipment. We ensure the highest quality cells for our customers by classifying cell count, phenotype, viability, purity and upholding the highest standards using tested and consistent laboratory protocols. With our 100% satisfaction guarantee, you can count on us to provide cells that have high viability and cell counts consistently.
The CGT difference: your cells, your way
Working with an experienced and trusted cell vendor simplifies and expedites the experimental workflow. We can provide the right cells, at the right place, at the right time, customized to your scientific aims.
Size: For bone marrow we offer a range of order sizes and large volume collections (up to 200 mL). A range of cell counts per vial with custom options are available upon request for isolated cells.
Reagents: Other ways we can customize your order are using custom anticoagulants, collection containers, media and buffers.
Cell isolations and cultures: We can provide multiple cell types from the same donor and customize the types of cells we isolate or culture for you.
Shipment: Cryo shipping can be arranged worldwide with expertise in getting biospecimens through customs. To streamline this, our Stem Cell Collection Centers are strategically located near major international airports.
Donor characteristics: With our coast-to-coast recallable pool of thousands of donors and established recruitment processes, we can offer cells from individuals that are specific to the scientists’ research question.
