The outbreak of the new coronavirus, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and the disease it causes, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), has reached all parts of the world within a few months. The impact of this pandemic has led to a standstill of many countries across the globe.

During times of crisis blood donations decrease, impacting critical research for studies of disease, including COVID-19 infections, as well as the supply available for blood transfusions. StemExpress is a vital and essential business-enabling research for COVID-19 and is open for blood collection from donors at our six collection centers across the United States. In areas that are “shelter-in-place” or ordered to “stay at home,” we are still open and able to accept donors into our facilities and donors are able by law to travel to and from our facilities.

StemExpress is dedicated to the safety of our donors and understand you may be concerned about your health and safety with regards to blood donation. You have our assurance that you are not at risk of contracting COVID-19 through a blood donation process. We have heightened our daily safety efforts including screening our staff daily for symptoms of infection, outfitted our collection center teams with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use when working with donors and increased cleaning and sanitization cadence and procedures at our centers. We ensure that our donors practice proper social distancing in our waiting rooms and are in private donation rooms during blood collection. We are following at or above the recommended guidelines as given by The World Health Organization (WHO) & Center for Disease Control (CDC) with regards to how to decrease the transmission of the virus including hygiene practices, quarantine recommendations, and social distancing.
